Jenzbook II

I'm really liking this book. Heidi, I'm going to hold on to it for a few more days, so I can share it with the folks in my printmaking class. I will use it as a recruiting tool. BTW, the type was printed on a Showcard letterpress during a printmaking demonstration at my last class. I kinda dig it. So, I will mail the book on Friday.

Jenny's entry in Anna's Moly!I did it!
I will ship to Lau very soon!

Received Marty's Moly from Anna Denise

Just wanted to tell you that the Neighbor-Moly arrived safe! Thank you Anna Denise for encouraging words and this very nice envelope... I have to admit that I'm nevertheless a litte bit nervous, because I have only some woolly ideas. Btw: This Moly is so great! So much better to see it live than here in the blog.

Flickr Re-Visioned

The raccoon posed for this illustration in the fashon of an earlier illustration I did for moly_x_1. Lau said that the only rule is to have fun. SO.....I had fun. Messy, but that's the raccoon spirit.

I went with a northern hemisphere spring thing to follow Lau's southern hemisphere autumn theme.

A lot of work is coming..

Thanks Jenny, beautiful package, amazing drawings (yours and from Ollif!) and so sweet candy (I've taken one, the rest continue across the world)!

Finished (?): Anna's entry in Marty's Moly!

My entry in Marty's 'People in your Neighborhood' Moleskine. Since I don't really know my neighbors (and to be honest, I'd like to keep it that way) I wrote the things that I do know on a map of my small 'block' of houses. Not sure if I'll keep it like this, might just be the 1st version. I think I'd like to add some shading perhaps.

I felt a little strange about adding color, since neither Marty or Heidi used any color, but I added some tiny green details to Marty and Heidi's drawings (hope you don't mind...) to make it look more coherent.

Well, still working on it probably, but just wanted to show you what's going on!
---

UPDATE: I added the shading and I think I'm done. Will send it out to Kathrin sometime next week. See the picture below for Marty's entire Moly!

Thursday, April 24, 2008

THANKS LAU.

I received your book. DHL tried to deliver it two days ago. Second time was the charm. It is lovely, so pretty and delicately drawn. I am inspired to try something light and springy, a northern hemisphere response to your southern hemisphere autumn theme.

The Bezalel Stamp

Hello colleagues ! I'm sending Kathrin's Moly to Lou tomorrow , but before I would like to tell you a story about the stamp that I put in this illustration!

So, maybe you know (or not), but I'm finishing my studies in Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, This Academy was established even before Israel was set up.

About two years ago , Bezalel celebrated 100 years anniversary, and there was a competition , for designing a stamp for our Academy. A friend from my class won!!!! So this is a real stamp made by my classmate , and it was printed to celebrate 100 years to my Academy! (The stamp is real and it was sold in all local post offices).

Ready: Olya's Entry into Anna-D's Moly

Dear all!
2night I have finished my drawing into Anna's Moly. It turned out 2 be double-layered ((= (check the pictures).
The text is on the top layer.
Hope nothing would peel off when I fold it ^_^
While surfing the Net I found out an interesting thing-The International Unit of Greenpeace is situated in Holland! So it's rather symbolic to have a plant stort story in Anna's artbook)
Hugs (=
Olya
(I will send it this weekend, anyway-will inform you via e-mail)

Hi Ladies and Marty,

yesterday I finished my entry in Heidi's Moleskine, topic: "Something you overheard". I couldn't decide between two situations which I noticed, so I drew both. I hope pleadingly that my translation of the overheard sayings is correct.

Love,
Kathrin

Finished: Anna Denise's entry in Heidi's Moleskine

Today I finished my entry in Heidi's Moleskine!

In preparation for my entry in Heidi's Moleskine, I left my iPod at home for a week and paid good attention to what other people were saying. After about a week I witnessed this scene.

A boy and a girl (I think they must have been about 16yrs old) sitting in the train holding hands. They didn't speak much until the girl looked out the window and said very thoughtfully:
"You know, it's like I live in two worlds.
[Long pauze]
There's one world is which I love you...
[long pauze]
...and there's like...another world in which I just really...hate you."

It was kind of funny because it didn't seem like she was trying to be mean, but the boy looked pretty upset.
Soon after we reached the train's final destination.

Thank you Heidi, for this fun exercise. This is what your Moleskine looks like now.

I will send it onto Kathrin some time this week.
Love, Anna

Olya's Entry into Kathrin's Moly is ready (=

Hi dear all!
Yesterday I have finished my piece in Kathrin's Moleskine. I added eveything Kath asked except for the mail sticker! (Usually in Russia these are not stickers but a simple seal that is put on the envelope or is already there).
I described several activities I like to do being at my native town-Krasnogorsk. As the page limit is too short-only one sport activity I am going in for is mentioned. But a very actual one-because spring is coming and many people are looking forward to cycling (=
I will send the Moly to Jenny this Tuesday (Monday is a day-off this week due to the holiday).
Have a nice time.

Look what I got in the mail...

...Heidi's journal!

The journal is amazing! Heidi's work looks even better 'in the flesh' than on the scan (which I was quite impressed with already)! I'm a little hesitant to start, but last week I overheard something that would fit this journal perfectly, so I'll work on it some time this week!

And...there's a great little surprise in the package for all of us! Thank you Heidi!

How to post a letter for Moleskine exchange...

On Monday I posted Anna Denises Moleskine to Olya. By itself no problem.

But you don't know how pudding-headed I can be. I bought some stamps, I knew that the postage to Russia amounts 4,50 Euro. So I bought one stamp for 3,90 Euros and one for 50 Cent, put both onto the letter and posted it. On my way home something seemed to be strange, and the scales fell from my eyes: 3,90 + 0,50 = 4,40! Damn! I went back to the post office and asked if they could open the letter box, but they couldn't. Nobody had the key. So I drove again at 2 p.m. when the letter box should be emptied. The postwomen came a little bit too late, I got nervous because of the traffic wardens (didn't have enough loose cash)... told her my problem, at first she didn't want to help me because she was in a hurry, but at least she emptied the letter box in a way that I could see all the letters... and I could fish it out and put the missing 10 Cent Stamp onto the letter and posted it again.
What I want to tell you: Olya, I posted your next letter. And don't you dare to laugh about me! ;-)))
Love, Kathrin

Hurray!

Hi dear all! Great news!

Finally, the Moly from Germany reached my place!!! I do not need to spend sleepless nights near the mailbox! (=
KATHRIN, tell me, how, HOW did you know that I totally adore black gel pens??? KATH!! Thanks! Cute couple you draw me! The landscape is also adorable!

Well...I have started to generate my entry into your beauty. ((=

Cheers

Olya's First Entry

Hi everyone!
I am finally back from my holidays and, as I promised, rushed to finish my first entry (=.

The main topic for my Moly is TRAVELLING that could include any countries/cities/just small places you have visited and was impressed by/ disappointed with. Put anything connected with travelling-travel tips, advice, tickets as proof of being to those places, stories, funny incidents, etc.
There are also 2 other themes:
1. Your fave artists or art styles that had influence on you.
2. Your obsessions with anything.

This very piece I dedicated to lovely Vienna which I visited last summer and fell in love (= By chance, one of the artists I fancy are from Vienna-Klimt and Hundertwasser. What's more-here is a slight hint to my obsession with houses ((=

Anyway-please, do fell free to create anything you would have inspiration for!

Note-do not forget to sign your piece backwards and write shortly what materials you used.
I will e-mail when the Moly is sent to Jenny (on Mon or Tue).

PS sorry for a bad pic quality-I was in a hurry ^_^

Finished: Kathrins entry for Anna Denise's Moleskine

Hi Ladies and Marty,

today I finished my work for Anna Denise's Moleskine. Like I already showed as a sketch on flickr my idea was to draw a picture of the germans - a beer drinking, overweighted and bean counting nation? ;-)
Hey Olya, tomorrow you'll be back from holidays and I hope you received the letter with the Moleskine. The next days I will also send Anna Denise's Moleskine to you!

Have fun!
Kathrin

Heidi's first entry (Hello!)

Hello folks!

So... at last, after poking and staring at it for some time, I dared to splash out in my journal!

I won't show you the inside-cover page, but just to let you know that it explains my proposed journal theme 'overheard conversations', this includes any kind of found dialogue (written on walls, found notes, etc), what you heard at the bus stop, on the tv, the voices inside your head, anything you can relate to that kind of theme would be great!
So start paying attention to the old lady mumbling to herself at the supermarket cheese counter, and the scribbled graffiti on the edge of the cafe table...

I really look forward to seeing everyones interpretations!

Hoping to post this tomorrow, it should take about a week from UK to reach Anna Denise :D

Best wishes,

Heidi

Kathrin's Moleskine started its journey to Russia.

20.2.2008 Today I posted the letter with the Moleskine for Olya. Accidentally the postman came at the same moment to clear the letter-box, so I asked him if he could make a photo as proof. He was a nice and humorous postman and he took the picture.
He assumed that the letter will take one week from Germany to Russia.
Hey, Olya! That won't be enough time for more than 2 or 3 grey hairs. ;-)

Cheers !
Kathrin

Kathrin's Moleskine: 'Paperchase'

Hi everybody,

yesterday I finished my first entry... I started with my hometown Kiel, because the moleskine's journey is starting here.

moleskine_080217.jpg

This moleskines theme is
Paperchase

But don't panic, you are free in the choice of your theme. But please imply three components in your work:
  1. A stamp from your country
  2. A snippet from a newspaper or a magazine from your country
  3. An airmail sticker from your country
I hope this is ok for all... And it would be great if you would insert a portrait of you. This can be a little photo or a drawn selfportrait. You don't have to, it's optional.

I will send the moleskine to Olya the next days.

Happy exchange!
Kathrin

Anna Denise's Moleskine: 'Stories'

Hey girls and guy!

I worked on the first few pages of my Moleskine today!

I drew and wrote about my hometown, Utrecht. I love that city (although I have left it many a times and will leave it soon again), mainly because it's so old and has lost of stories to tell. I love hearing stories. So... that's going to be the theme of my Moleskine. Stories. You can take this with as much liberty as you like, or just disregard it entirely, hehe. Just have fun.

I might want to rework some parts of my entry, but I will e-mail everyone once I send it onto Kathrin!

Love, Anna Denise

Olya's Moleskine: Hi everyone (=

I have signed mine 2day!

*Jenny, sorry if I made a mistake in the word, but the symbols are a bit complicated. I hope the meaning of it is that I wanted it to be.

Welcome & Thank you.

Great initiative! The logo artwork is adorable and clever. Thanks for joining and placing your mark on this project.

Moleskine Exchange: Group 4

This blog will follow the adventure of a group of artists around the world, in a Japanese fold Moleskine sketchbook exchange.

Each artist will set off with a small Japanese (accordian) folded Moleskine. Creating a drawing, collage, or painting, then send on to the next artist. Each artist will draw on a spread (2 or 3 pages) then send it on to the next artist. When the artists book is filled, it will be returned to the owner with images created by artist around the world. Each artist has a month to make an entry. The outcome will be a pleasant and surprising adventure, as artists are encouraged to interact and merge their art with others.

The Moleskine Exchange project was begun by Marty Harris, Minnesota, USA.
Group four was set up by Jenny Meilihov (Israel) and  Anna Denise van der Reijden (The Netherlands).

The concept:
1. The artists start with the Japanese fold Moleskine - Name, address, email address written in book.

2. Each artist gets 1 month to make a sketchbook entry, and mail it to the next person. The order is listed to the right.

3. Each artist will do 2-3 pages each round.

4. Artists are encouraged to interact with other images in the book. Please be respectful.

5. When the book is full, when one side of the unfolded book is filled, the book will be sent back to its original owner. That artist may continue by buying a new book and sending it to the next person.

6. If a person decides not to continue, she will simply keep her book when it comes back to her. She should email all of the participants to say she is not going to continue. We will decide, then, if we want to find a new person.

7. Please communicate regularly via email. Let each person know that you have received/sent the book. The goal is to have a dialogue. Any comments and questions are welcome.

More information on the original group can be found here.
Please visit the Flickr-group here.
